WHY MS OFFICE?
Research
showed that most of the work done by most of the people could be categorized
into the following categories:
Word Processing: If you want to write letter, memos,
newsletters, invoices, fax messages, etc. on a computer you need a word
processor. A word processor like MS work does what it says – processes words or
text. By processing words, we mean that through this software you can type your
text and then edit, modify, delete or print it. Perhaps the biggest advantage
in case of a word processor is what is called ‘electronic cut and paste’, which
means that once having typed the matter you move and shuffle it around almost
like bricks.
WHAT IS MS OFFICE?
Window and MS Office are Microsoft’s
two most popular programs. One is an operating system and the other a bundle
suite comprising MS Word (word processor), MS Excel (spread sheet), MS
PowerPoint (graphic presentation program), MS Publisher. Together, these two
flagship programs have a world wide grip and a near monopoly over the personal
computer packaged software market. Not only are they the most preferred and
widely used programs in this segment, they have become a benchmark against
which all other products are evaluated.
Microsoft Office Professional is a
collection of programs and packages that, in spite of their size and
complexity, work very well together. Ardent fans of MS Office claim that it
meets ninety percent of all computer software requirements for ninety percent
of user, ninety percent of times.
From your (and my) point of view,
this simply means that once having learnt and mastered these packages, in spite
of a high rate of technological obsolescence in the computer industry, the
skills acquired would never go waste. No matter where you work and what you do,
MS Office would be of great use to you.
I rather like MS office. I started
working on computers when Kilobytes was considered sufficient, Megabytes were considered
huge and Gigabytes were unheard of. People had to work with a cryptic operation
system called MS-DOD. Programs did not talk to each other, at least not easily
and sharing information between various packages was arduous. It could be done,
but only if you were a pro!
Things have changed since. Programs
have become friendly, not only towards users but also amongst themselves. Now
you need not take computers seriously, to do serious work on computers.
